I sit on the Board as a recently retired representative of the General Practitioners in the Halton area-whose patients are the main users of the services available at Halton Haven. I was a GP at the Peelhouse Plaza Practice in Widnes, where I worked from 1987 to 2016.
My aim as a Board member is to support the Hospice and its staff in providing the range of vital Palliative Care services available at Halton Haven.
I am married with a grown up daughter and live in Chester. My leisure interests include golf and hill walking.
Born in 1941, I was educated at Farnworth C of E School in Widnes and then at Merchant Taylors’ School Crosby where I was a boarder. I am now retired having spent my working life in our family transport business. A widower with 3 children and 3 grandchildren, I have lived most of my adult life in Widnes.
I became involved with the Hospice after the death of my wife Angela in Halton Haven in 2004. Although she was initially frightened of going to a Hospice, after a couple of days she said “I am in the best place”. The care and compassion that she and the family received during those final few days still moves me greatly. Later that year I was invited to become a Trustee and joined the Board in January 2005 and became Chairman of the Finance sub-Committee a few years later. I consider it a privilege to have had the opportunity to support this very fine establishment as do all my family.
Other interests include being a member of Widnes Rotary Club, a Liveryman in the City of London and a magistrate for 39 years, retiring under the age rule at 70.
I have spent my career working in marketing and business development, for large and small organisations and running my own consultancy. My work brought me into the charity sector some years ago and I have found working in this area both stimulating and rewarding. I was very pleased to be invited to apply to become a trustee of Halton Haven and to assist this valuable and valued service.
I am a Mancunian by birth. Having lived in Alvanley for nearly 30 years, I recently moved the long distance to Helsby! I am a keen cyclist and like to get out into the lovely Cheshire countryside as often as I can, 4 grandchildren permitting!
I retired in 2017, from a 27-year career in sales, marketing, and management. As a director I worked for global and SME healthcare organisations providing products and services to health providers around the world. After an extremely rewarding and stimulating career, I felt it was time to give back to the local community having lived in Frodsham since 2000.
I feel privileged to be involved with the Haven and the special work that it does as an integral part of the local community
I still work in a non-executive capacity with a medical veterinary company & like to spend my spare time with a variety of sports, minding my two young granddaughters and walking our young dog
