Meet Adam – Our Kitchen Volunteer

His journey began when he walked past the Hospice and decided to pop in to ask if we needed volunteers. “The only regret I have is that I didn’t pop in sooner.” Adam shares.

There are many different volunteering roles at the Hospice with each one helping to build new skills and experiences. Adam says, “Personally, it has given me new skills like my food hygiene training, and I’ve had the chance to do other courses including my safeguarding. I‘ve done about 15 to 20 courses now. It’s also given me a warm experience in a different area to what I’m used to working. I’m used to working in warehouses and manufacturing so it’s a bit like a career path change for me.”

With every role at the Hospice different, jobs may vary but for Adam, “A day for me may look like cleaning the kitchen and visitors’ areas, assisting with the rest of the kitchen wherever they need me. The first thing of the day is normally washing up ready for the day and making sure we have milk, sugar, tea that sort of thing.”
