Heart-warming butterfly release at Halton Haven

On 22nd of August 2026, over 200 people visited Halton Haven Hospice to join our annual Tea at Three event. Thanks to the incredible support of the community, this years event raised a staggering £8,210 for the Hospice.

Tea at Three is a beautiful in-memory event and this year we hosted a range of activities like afternoon tea boxes, BBQ, bar, tombola’s, local stalls and live music – Tea at Three 2026 truly was a lovely family-friendly afternoon at the Hospice. Luckily for us, the sun came out and shone on the Hospice grounds which were filled with people having picnics, playing lawn games, children creating crafts, and people perusing the 22 local and Hospice stalls.

From donations on our stalls such as ‘blind date with a book’ or our very popular ‘Booze or lose stall’ to donations made in memory of a loved one, every penny raised at the event goes towards ensuring that we can continue providing the best palliative and end-of-life care to those in our community.

The highlight of the event was when our community came together to remember and celebrate loved ones during the butterfly release.

This year, to mark the start of the butterfly release, we had a beautiful speech from the Mayor of Halton, Councillor Pamela Wallace, and a poem read by one of our Hospice Nurses, Chloe.

“A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam and for a brief moment its glory and beauty belong in our world, but then it flies on again, and although we wish it could have stayed, we are so thankful to have seen it at all.”

Both Chloe and Councillor Pamela Wallace, Mayor of Halton, released butterflies on behalf of those who couldn’t attend the event, but wanted their loved ones to be remembered and create a lasting difference at the Hospice.

Over 100 butterflies were released this year by individuals, families, and on behalf of others. It was a heart-warming moment seeing loved ones be remembered and celebrated, spreading smiles as butterflies took to the skies or hung around for a little longer.

The butterfly release was proudly supported by Creamfields Community Grant.
