FAQs

Is there real fire/ice?

There is real fire, but there is no ice – the ‘ice’ walk is made up of broken glass.

Are there minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Participants must be aged 18 years of age on Friday 1st October 2021.

Do I need to prepare before the event?

All you need is the training undertaken at the event. You should abstain from the consumption of alcohol or drugs prior to the event. Any person who is in the opinion of the trainer unfit to participate will NOT be permitted to take part.

How fit do I need to be?

There is no strenuous physical exercise involved. If you can walk normally then you should manage the glass walk perfectly well, and if you can walk a few steps at a brisk pace (with or without support), then you should manage the fire walk perfectly well. If you have any doubts please consult your GP

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There is parking at Ten Lock Flight and in the car park next door. Alternatively it is a short walk from Runcorn bus station up past the Brindley Theatre, across the canal bridge and across the car park to the pub.

Can I bring my family/friends?

Of course! Spectators are welcome to come and watch, but please bear in mind that the training session is for participants only and your friends/family will not be able to join you for this portion of the evening. However refreshments will be available and there will be other things to keep them entertained while you’re in training.

They will be required to comply with all social distancing rules in place at the time.

What exactly happens in a fire and ice walk?

While participants undergo training, the Time 4 Change team prepares a path made up of hundreds of broken glass bottles and builds a fire. When the fire has burned to red-hot embers it is raked level and prepared for the walk.

Once the training session is complete, participants go to the glass lane, remove their footwear and one by one are invited to walk the broken glass. Following the Ice walk participants undergo further training to take on the Fire Walk and the process is repeated on the fire lane.

If you choose not to take part after the training no-one will force you too and no peer pressure will be allowed either.

 What should I wear?

Casual comfortable clothes are best. Fires can be quite dirty so clothes may become ash or smoke stained. Shoes needs to be easy to remove, and will need to be replaced before going back indoors so a hand towel or wet wipes are advised.

Is it safe?

There is an inherent risk in any activity involving fire or broken glass. It is important that participants pay attention to all of the training and heed the advice and instruction of the trainer, firewatchers and spotters. Whilst absolute safety is not guaranteed, proper procedure reduces risk to the achievable minimum.

 Will I be hypnotised?

No. There is no hypnotism involved. You will be fully awake at all times – indeed you will be more alert than usual. You may also withdraw at any time if you wish.

What happens if it is cancelled?

In the unforeseen circumstance that the fire walk is unable to take place every attempt will be made to rearrange the date.
